Mandy Sorensen, Owner
I was born and raised in the Salt Lake Valley. I gained a love of learning at a young age and have been a motivated and hardworking student throughout my academic career. After graduating with honors from Highland High School, I soon realized my love for teaching and began working as a tutor. I worked one-on-one with dozens of students for four years while I attended the University of Utah on a full scholarship. I earned my degree in Elementary Education in 2012, graduating Summa Cum Laude.
After graduating, I worked as a full-time teacher for 3 years at Mill Creek Elementary in the 4th-6th grades. Throughout my time there, I gained experience with the Common Core Curriculum and taught many diverse students, including English language learners and students with special needs. I also continued to tutor privately throughout my teaching career. I officially stepped away from the classroom and made Edge Tutoring my main focus in 2015. After discovering the profound and positive impact that one-on-one tutoring was having on my students, I knew I could help parents and students navigate the changing curriculum, gain confidence, and achieve success.
I have a passion helping students learn the skills they need to be successful in school and in life. I also believe learning (and tutoring) should be FUN! I enjoy tutoring all subjects, but I especially enjoy math. In my spare time, you'll find me on some sort of adventure with my friends or family. I love going on hikes, reading, skiing, and taking my kids to every park, museum, and kid-friendly hangout I can think of. I currently live in the Millcreek area with my husband and two sons.
Jason Manning, Tutor
I grew up in American Fork, Utah and came to Salt Lake to study at the University of Utah. This is my junior year in the Biomedical Engineering program, and I look forward to graduate school in the years to come. I have been tutoring for 3 years now and have loved working with students. Simply put, I believe my job is the help students learn how to learn; as students organize themselves and recognize their own abilities, they are on their way to being self-sufficient learners. My favorite subjects to tutor are math, science, and ACT test prep.
As an avid skier, I spend every moment of free winter time on a mountain. When there isn’t snow, I’m probably still on a mountain either climbing or biking.
Morgan Stauffer, Tutor
I was born and raised in the Salt Lake Valley. I think it is one of the most beautiful places in all of Utah. I love it! Another thing that I love is education. Ever since I was young, gaining an education has always been most important to me. I loved going to school each day and learning new topics that taught me more about the world. Throughout my high school experience, I took many AP courses. I ended up graduating from Murray High School with honors in 2019. I was one of the top ten students in my grade and graduated with a 4.0 GPA. Following graduation, I attended the Honors College at the University of Utah. After my freshman year I transferred to BYU where I am currently majoring in psychology and minoring in Italian. After receiving my undergraduate degree, I plan to attend graduate school. I hope to teach neuropsychology as a professor.
In the past, I have taught English as an intern to ESL students at Parkside Elementary. I focused on helping students be successful in reading, writing, and understanding English grammar. In addition, I also volunteered as a reading tutor at both Millcreek and West Kearns Elementary Schools. Overall, my favorite subjects to tutor are math and reading! Math has always been one of my favorite subjects. During my college career I have taken AP Calculus, Calculus I, and Calculus II. It is one of my favorite subjects in the whole world! I get so excited to talk about it! Secondly, I love to tutor reading and explain the basics of the English language. I am passionate about reading because it is essential to being successful in academia. I love helping students get the personal help they need to feel confident in their subjects!
When I’m not tutoring, I enjoy playing a number of different sports. I grew up playing soccer and volleyball. However, recently I have begun learning tennis and pickleball. I also enjoy playing the piano! My favorite activity to unwind is hanging out with friends and family while eating some yummy food.
Aalia Fields, Tutor
Aalia was born on an Air Force base in Landstuhl, Germany, and raised in a small beach community on the Central Coast of California. Tutoring her little brother how to write the alphabet, and eventually his first name, was her first taste of teaching—and since then, she hasn’t been able to stop!
Aalia moved to Salt Lake City, Utah in 2012 to attend the Urban Institute for Teacher Education at the University of Utah. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with an Honors Degree in Elementary Education in 2016, and later, earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology in 2020. Currently, she is attending Capella University to earn a Doctorate in Education.
Though Aalia has committed many years to her own learning, teaching has always been her life. After earning her teaching degree, she taught 5th grade at Woodrow Wilson Elementary for several years before deciding to leave the classroom in the summer of 2020 to pursue other education-related ventures. She now works as an educational consultant for nonprofit organizations, as well as a homeschool teacher/tutor for 1st-6th graders almost every day of the week! Her favorite subjects to teach are science, math, and writing.
Aalia currently lives in South Salt Lake with her husband, two cats, and dog. In her free time, you can find her curled up on her armchair with her cats, drinking coffee and reading a book; flying on a plane to a foreign country; boxing, cycling, or doing yoga at the gym; or walking her pup around the neighborhood!
Elise Harris, Tutor
I was born and raised in Oceanside, California, and graduated from Vista High School with honors. I received my bachelor's degree in Exercise Science from Brigham Young University, graduating Magna Cum Laude. I was a member of The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi and earned a spot on the Dean's list the last two years of my undergraduate studies. I am currently working on my doctorate degree in Physical Therapy at the University of Utah. I have developed a thorough understanding of math, science, and writing through extensive coursework in these areas. Courses I have taken include but are not limited to: Chemistry, Physics, Statistics, Calculus, Anatomy, Micro and Molecular Biology, Biomechanics, Psychology, Persuasive writing, etc. I can fluently read, write, and speak Spanish as a result of serving a church mission in Guatemala and taking several language courses at BYU.
While working on my undergraduate degree, I worked with a large variety of students: I volunteered at a Spanish-Immersion elementary school, participated in a BYU tutoring program which focused on improving the reading, writing, and math skills of ESL students, volunteered as a mentor for 6th grade students from the local schools, and consistently acted as an impromptu tutor to my fellow classmates in physics and chemistry. I have also worked with children at the Utah State Mental Hospital.
As a result of being a student athlete in high school and an avid intramural participant in college, I have refined the skill of organization and time management, and intend on passing on those skills and strategies to my students. In my free time, I enjoy playing almost any sport that exists: soccer, tennis, volleyball, pickleball, ultimate frisbee, racquetball, spikeball, you name it. In general, you can find me outside, whether it be running, biking, hiking, etc. I enjoy playing the piano, and have recently picked up the ukulele. I love spending time with family and friends. I try to live by my personal motto of: work hard, play hard!
Savannah Romney, Tutor
I was born and raised in Draper, Utah. I have always been passionate about my education, especially my science courses! I graduated as valedictorian of Corner Canyon High School’s class of 2021. Currently, I am a Freshman at the University of Utah studying biology and mathematics. I have grown fond of mathematical biology and how relevant it is to the world around us. I am currently conducting research in a genetics lab at the U and I love it! In my future, I would like to attend medical school and become an OB/GYN or pediatrician. I love helping people… especially kiddos!
I have been tutoring students one-on-one for over a year. My favorite subjects to tutor are math, biology, anatomy, and Spanish. I love working with kiddos of all ages, K-12. I am also a teaching assistant for a biology lab at the U. I love to watch my students succeed, so tutoring and teaching are very rewarding to me! As a tutor, I have three main goals. First, I would like to help my students gain a deep understanding of their class content so that they feel confident in their abilities and perform well on assessments. My second goal is to teach my students time management skills that they can use for the rest of their education. My final goal is to help students see how fun learning can be!
When I’m not studying, tutoring, or in my research lab, I relax and have fun playing sports! I played competitive golf throughout high school and loved every second of it. I enjoy spending time outdoors and hiking! I also love to read, listen to music, crochet, and spend time with my friends and family!
